The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence is reshaping every industry, and the jewelry world is no exception. While the journey of AI is ongoing, experts and major AI providers agree on a five-step trajectory that AI will follow as it evolves.
Understanding these levels isn’t just a theoretical exercise—it’s a practical roadmap for how jewelers can stay competitive in a rapidly changing market. Let’s explore these steps and their implications for your brand.
Level 1: Chatbots
This is where AI began for most industries, and it’s already making a significant impact in the jewelry business.
What It Is: AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT engage in natural language conversations, answering questions, providing information, and assisting with tasks.
Jewelry Application: Tools like Free Jewelers Advantage AI are helping business owners fill knowledge gaps, access strategic insights, and operate like seasoned executives.
The Benefit: Even small family jewelry stores can now operate with the sophistication of much larger brands by using AI chatbots to plan marketing, improve customer service, and refine operations.
Level 2: Reasoners
2024 was the year of advanced reasoning models like Strawberry, which brought new levels of reliability to AI.
What It Is: Reasoners are AIs designed to solve complex problems, such as financial projections or logistics planning, with greater accuracy and dependability.
Jewelry Application:
Financial planning: Creating precise budgets and sales forecasts.
Inventory management: Accurately projecting which styles and materials will sell best during key seasons.
The Difference: While Level 1 chatbots are great for brainstorming and creative thinking, reasoners reduce the risk of “hallucinations” (inaccurate outputs) and provide more dependable answers for critical decision-making.
Level 3: Agents
Welcome to 2025: The Year of the AI Agent.
What It Is: AI agents go beyond conversation—they are digital employees capable of working autonomously, using tools, and completing multi-step tasks.
Jewelry Application:
Live Chat for Sales & Service: AI agents can act as 24/7 sales reps, answering questions, upselling products, and guiding customers through their purchases.
Key Differentiator: Brands using AI agents will dominate market share because they can sell and serve customers around the clock.
Why It Matters: eCommerce jewelry brands can now compete with (and surpass) traditional stores by delivering personalized, expert-level service anytime, anywhere.
Level 4: Innovators
The fourth level of AI introduces creative capabilities that are truly game-changing.
What It Is: Innovator-level AIs can write software, design complex systems, and create entirely new processes.
Jewelry Application:
AI Text-to-CAD: Imagine describing a jewelry design in words and having AI generate a CAD file ready for production.
Robotic Jewelry Repair: Innovator-level AI could enable robotics to repair jewelry with unparalleled precision and efficiency.
Why It Matters: At this level, AI doesn’t just assist your business—it reinvents what’s possible, pushing the boundaries of creativity and craftsmanship.
Level 5: Organizations
The final level of AI evolution is the most ambitious: AI Organizations.
What It Is: AI swarms—teams of agents working together—can run entire businesses autonomously. Each agent handles a specialized role, seamlessly collaborating with others.
Jewelry Application:
An AI-powered jewelry brand could integrate eCommerce, inventory management, marketing, customer service, and even in-store operations into a single autonomous system.
The Future: A family-owned jewelry store could scale to global reach without hiring large teams—an AI organization would handle everything from logistics to customer engagement.

What's up, guys? This is Jesse Korby here at Jewelers Advantage, and today we are talking about the evolution of AI in the jewelry industry.
This is exciting stuff. We're actually going to go through the roadmap of what you should expect to see in artificial intelligence across all industries, and we're also going to go over what we think is going to happen in the jewelry industry based on our consulting work here at Jewelers Advantage.
If we look here on the left-hand side, we have five levels of AI. This isn't my opinion—this is the public roadmap that essentially the entire tech industry agrees upon regarding what we believe is going to happen in artificial intelligence.
These terms have been defined by OpenAI, but whether you're at OpenAI (the creator of ChatGPT) or you're at another major global lab such as Google DeepMind, or another major provider such as Anthropic (that produces Claude), or any of the other very smart people creating AI tools, everybody is more or less in agreement that the roadmap as an industry aligns with these five levels that we're going to go over.
And of course, I'll let you know what you should expect in the jewelry industry.
Before we get into that, let's understand where we are and where things are going.
At Level 1, we have chatbots. If you're familiar with ChatGPT or have played with that tool or any of the other major frontier providers of large language models, you're familiar with what an AI chatbot is—and it is amazing.
If you haven't had the experience yet, everybody that has their first bit of an "aha moment" of understanding how these tools work and how they can make you more productive and faster while reducing the amount of brainpower needed understands that chatbots are pretty incredible.
There's a reason why ChatGPT was and is the fastest-growing software tool ever released—it's because it's a miracle of science.
This was 2023, when everybody was really starting to get on the bandwagon with AI, and it was because of large language models inside of chatbots.
Next up, we have Reasoners. If you heard about "strawberry," this was the big to-do in 2024. This is where a chatbot, essentially a large language model, was configured in a way that it could have a series of thoughts to reason what is going to happen.
This is something like a more advanced PhD-level thinker inside of a chatbot. Why this was important is because it thinks at the level of a PhD scientist, unlocking the ability for advanced math and more reliable financial figures.
In the jewelry industry, before tools like this, something like ChatGPT—though amazing—was entry-level. It amplified human intelligence but was prone to hallucination and incorrect information.
That creativity and flexibility made it useful in some contexts but unreliable in others, like when we need accurate estimates tied to finances. Reasoners changed that.
With tools or models such as 01 built into ChatGPT, this became a reality. This was up to 2024, and this is essentially where we are now, right at the line leading into something called AI Agents.
Agents are going to be what Reasoners were to 2024; they will be that in 2025. This is the big buzzword in the tech space right now: AI agent employees.
What these are going to allow every industry to do is have digital employees performing the same work as a virtual assistant or anybody doing computer-related work.
As these technologies stack onto one another, they become really powerful. What if your VA had the intelligence of a PhD scientist? No more bad employees—and it's also cheaper.
Agents can work around the clock, with no drama, focused solely on achieving their goals.
What this is going to unlock in the jewelry industry is huge. We’re going to have live chat sales and service support on e-commerce stores. Combine that with Reasoners, and they’ll be able to talk to the customer, review your store policies, understand your product data, check pricing, and even assess your supply chain to ensure promises made to customers are feasible and realistic.
Agents will also handle tasks across all departments, including product design, marketing automations, and planning. They’ll create content, schedule it using tools like Later or Hootsuite, and ensure it’s on brand.
On the sales and service side, agents will revolutionize customer support by providing 24/7 service that surpasses even your best employees. They’ll manage supply chains, oversee production, and ensure everything aligns with your budget to keep your business profitable.
By 2025, this will be transformative. AI will start to feel autonomous—almost like science fiction brought to life.
Then we move to Innovators. This is where AI agents with PhD-level reasoning become autonomous problem-solvers. They’ll be able to perform research, troubleshoot issues, and combine data at a scale that humans cannot match.
In the jewelry industry, this will unlock massive opportunities like AI text-to-CAD capabilities, automating complex design tasks, and potentially even introducing robotics for jewelry repair.
Innovators will make it possible for small teams to operate at the level of major brands. Imagine having AI that can train robots for tasks like jewelry repair or streamline your supply chain to create custom designs or sell high volumes of inventory.
Finally, we reach Level 5, where organizations fully leverage AI across all departments. Imagine a jewelry business where agents handle everything—live chat sales, marketing, supply chain, and product design—working in harmony like a well-orchestrated symphony.
At this stage, even small businesses can compete with major brands. The key will no longer be access to technology (as that will be democratized), but instead, your ability to craft a unique brand that connects emotionally with your customers.
AI will handle the technical aspects, but the human element—your creativity, your storytelling, your brand identity—will differentiate you from the competition.
To summarize, if you’re new to AI in the jewelry industry, start with ChatGPT and try out the free tools at JewelersAdvantage.com. These tools will help you build familiarity and prepare for the rapid advancements coming in 2025 and beyond.
